During our classes, we focus on the fundamental aspects of emotional awareness and self regulation through the incorporation of mindfulness techniques during yoga, art, and group activities.

Mindfulness is a method of guiding our focus to the present moment, attuning our senses to the here and now, and ridding our minds of distractions or worries about the past or future.  It is a skill that has been practiced in many different cultures and has been gaining increased attention for the benefits it yields related to key areas such as stress management and reduction of anxiety, improved emotional and cognitive functioning, and self-esteem.  These areas are becoming even more critical to address for school-age children who are facing expanding workloads and expectations within school, sports, and other activities.

With guidance, children can develop the ability to face these challenges with positive coping skills and greater confidence.

Our classes are designed to:

  • Increase awareness of our emotions and how they make us feel, think, and behave
  • Strengthen understanding of how the connection between our brains and our bodies can help us manage emotions
  • Identify what we can do to help ourselves when we are facing challenging or overwhelming emotions
  • Explore ways to improve attention and focus
  • Explore different methods of self-expression
